YOUNG WARRIOR

The history and culture of Native American tribes is both interesting and tragic. Biographies and Histories enumerate the overwhelming sense of sadness of the destruction and loss of a natural way of life. A loss, as well as a lack of understanding, for a peoples and cultures that revered nature and the natural world. These cultures were the first and purest environmentalists, only taking what they needed from the earth (with gratitude) and using every part of each resource procured. Nothing was wasted or wasteful. These were peoples grateful for the bounties provided, who lived according to the seasons. Native cultures all lived a spiritual philosophy, with humility to a higher power, and a kinship to the land and animals.

This sculpture is meant to reflect a brave warrior, proud and defiant. This piece can be interpreted as symbolizing the strength of the Native Americans in the face of destruction; pride even in the midst of the loss of a way of life.
